Face to Face was founded in 1988 by Stephen Pitkethly and Noel Alexander to develop, and to give a focus to, their individual songwriting and musicianship. Over the years Noel and Stephen have developed a very close musical understanding. Debbie Trewhella became involved as a lyricist through the ‘Ozerki Suite’ project in 1992. Since then she has been the major provider of our song lyrics and sings. To enhance the balance of the team musically, through vocal harmony, Cheryl Herman was welcomed into Face to Face in 1998.
In 2004 Stephen moved away and Noel soon after. However, we have all remained great friends and continue to sing the songs we wrote and add to our repertoire, albeit at a distance.
Why Face to Face?
Jesus said “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23-24)
Worship is a lifestyle not simply a song or hymn. It involves every area of our lives including speech, prayer and actions. Worship has rightly emerged as one of the most powerful aspects of church life. It is given solely for God’s glory and honour. To that end we believe we are called to serve God in the area of worship through music. Through worship we aim to bring people ‘face to face’ with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
